Friendship Scholarship
RAFS is our Scholarship Programme for South African and Zimbabwean Students, funded by the Rockport Scholarships and Bursaries Fund.
Aligning with the Round Square network's ethos of internationalism, this Scholarship will allow exceptional young Africans to have a formative academic and cultural experience in a completely different environment, promoting meaningful and lasting understanding and respect amongst all students of Rockport School.
Karabo Meso
Karabo Meso, from Soweto, South Africa, was an RAFS Scholar in 2023, joining Rockport from Steyn City School in Johannesburg. She speaks 3 languages and is also a talented athlete, having represented South Africa in Cricket.
Speaking about her time in Northern Ireland Karabo said "I am grateful for the exposure to a new culture, its kind and warm people, and the opportunity to study new subjects in a new education system with many other international students. I have learned much about myself and my ability to adapt to, and learn from new circumstances. I will carry many great memories from my time at Rockport."
Tim Gordon
Tim Gordon, from Johannesburg South Africa, was an RAFS Scholar in 2023, joining Rockport from Pretoria Boys High School where he excelled in Academics as a Dux Scholar.
Speaking about his experience at Rockport, Tim said "While at Rockport I especially enjoyed studying in an environment that had a European DNA but took on a global flavour from its many international students. Learning new cultural norms and ideas from the diverse group of pupils was amazing. With so many international students at Rockport I learned so much beyond the strong academics in the classroom."
This Scholarship is open to all students aged 16 to 17 who attend school in South Africa or Zimbabwe.
Scholarship applicants will have shown extraordinary development in personal, academic or other areas so as to contribute a different and enriching perspective to the Rockport community.
The recipients of the Scholarship will attend Rockport School during the Summer and Autumn terms between April and December.
