Rockport School’s Benji Botham is following in the sporting footsteps of his legendary grandfather, the world-famous England cricketer Ian Botham, with a second place in the World Junior Golf Championship in Spain over the weekend.
Benji and his brother Harley participated in the three-day international competition in their age categories, ‘8-9 years’ and ‘under 7’ respectively. Benji took on a field of 30 top golfers from around the world and put on a super final day performance to secure second place behind Elijah Gibbons from the UK.

Also flying the flag for Northern Ireland was Hugh Dalzell, who came in 18th place in Benji’s age category.
Benji Botham has studied at Rockport School for the past 3 and a half years, taking full advantage of the on-site Rockport Golf Academy. Both he and his brother Harley have had access to the coaching expertise of Rockport’s in-house PGA Professional Debbie Hanna daily since they joined the school.
When asked how he felt about his achievement, Benji quoted Tiger Woods stating; ‘The greatest thing about tomorrow is that I’ll be better than I was today.’ Emulating the best sporting stars, Benji is focused on improving his efforts and position in the next competition.
Everyone at Rockport School is so proud of the efforts of both Benji and Harley and we are committed to supporting them in every way we can as they continue their bid to be the golfing stars of the future.
